So many African farmers fight a losing battle with poverty. They have the ability and will to build better lives for themselves and their children, but they lack the resources. Most of them depend on less than three acres of land, often infirtile from over-cultivation. Banks refuse them loans to improve their farms or develop other sources of income. Even where schooling for their children is free, they are expected to provide paper, pencils and books, which are often way beyond their means. Healthcare is a luxury that they can hardly afford. Since 1988 Send a Cow has given cows and other livestock to hundreds of poor African farmers - mainly women, orphans and disabled people. The animals provide milk and income, and their manure increases crop yields, combating poverty and malnutrition. Send a Cow also provides training and low-cost veterinary services.
